Onwards and upwards

The 16 pupils received awards and certificates for their achievements throughout the school year, from setting up fundraisers and a blood-giving drive to organising prefect duties and school proms.

The group included James Carswell and Claire Hutchison from Eastwood high, Lindsay Millar and Lorraine Kyle from Woodfarm, Luke Gaughan and Hope McFadden from St Ninian’s, Charlie Clegg and Jennifer Bisset from Williamwood, Aidan O’Rouken and Carly Duckett from Mearns Castle, and Kevin Connor and Natasha Lang from Isobel Mair school.

Barrhead high’s Richard Barr and Rebecca Jones and St Luke’s pupils Conor Kenny and Sara Howie were also honoured.

Handing out trophies alongside director of education John Wilson, councillor Paul O’Kane, vice-convener of education and equalities, commented: “These 16 young people have been outstanding in their duties as head boys and girls.

“Their achievements are second to none and the roles they have taken will stand them in excellent stead as they go on to their lives beyond school.

“These young people are testament to the investment we make in their education – and, more importantly, to their own hard work and dedication.

“I was delighted to be able to congratulate them and help honour their achievements.”

And over at St Cadoc’s primary, pupils have also been planning for the future.

The school held another successful World of Work Week, during which parents and friends attended to tell the youngsters all about their jobs – and the future career options available to the graduates of tomorrow.

Teacher Victoria Slater told The Extra: “Pupils greeted and escorted visitors to a range of classes – including pilots, park rangers, office workers, SSPCA officers and renewable energy employees.

“The feedback we received from the children reflected the success of the week.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our parents and friends of the school for spending their time with us – the pupils and staff thoroughly enjoyed hearing about your jobs and roles in the community.”
