First meeting for new group

IF the old saying is to be believed there should be a few pots of gold dotted about Croy after eight Rainbows were spotted there last week.

These, however, were not just any Rainbows - they were the newly formed 1st Croy Rainbow Guides.

The first meeting of the new group took place last Thursday evening, and the organisers hope it will signal the successful return of the girlguiding movement to the village.

Anna Harkins, assistant guider, said: “We heard there was a good intake in Croy [Holy Cross Primary] at the start of the school year so we thought it might be worth trying to set up a Rainbow group.

“We managed to get eight girls along for our first session last week which was great, but we’ve still got spaces left.

“We’re hoping if the group’s successful we may be able to start a Brownies, then maybe we’ll be able to move on to Guides.”

Anna has been a Rainbow guide for 21 years and hopes parents will consider sending their daughters along to experience the fun of being involved.

She added: “As well as learning a lot, we play games and sing songs and it’s just a great way to get them active.”

The group meet on Thursdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at Croy Community Centre, Nethercroy Road.
