Oxfam needs volunteers for blooming marvellous project

Milngavie's Oxfam shop is looking for volunteers and donations of plants to create a community flower bed.

Oxfam is asking people to help make a colourful display at the community flower bed in the village this summer. Local voluntary gardening group Milngavie In Bloom has given them the use of the bed for the summer months, starting on Monday, May 30. The design of the community bed will include the Oxfam Logo.

Lynne McLean, the Manager of the Oxfam Shop in Milngavie, said: “We are delighted that Milngavie in Bloom have kindly given Oxfam this opportunity. We start looking after the Bed on Bank Holiday Monday 30, when we are going to plant it up, so it would be great if local people could help us on the day.

“We would also appreciate any offers of help from local people who could spare even a couple of hours a week over the summer months to help us plant up the flower bed and look after it. We would also welcome any donations of plants or flowers.. We want the whole community to feel that this is their flower bed and belongs to all of us.”

Anyone who wants to donate flowers and plants or volunteer their time should contact the Oxfam Store on 0141 956 3879, or pop in to the shop at Unit 2, Douglas House, 40 Main Street, Milngavie, G62 6BU.
