Oxfam shop seeks volunteers

If you can spare some free time, Bishopbriggs Oxfam shop is looking for volunteers to help with stock management and serve customers.

The store, in the Triangle Shopping Centre, relies on volunteers to keep running and ensure that it contributes to Oxfam’s fight against poverty.

Shop manager Margie Burden, said: “We have received lots of donations recently, which we’re really grateful for. This is a very generous community.

“But we really need more volunteers to help us make the most of the fantastic stock we’ve got, and make as much money as possible for Oxfam’s work. Whether it’s working on the shop floor and till, sorting stock, or applying any expertise they might have, we’d be grateful for any time that volunteers can give.

“Several of our great volunteers have recently left us, because they have found paid work or because of other opportunities or commitments. This is evidence of what people get out of volunteering with us, but it does mean we need to recruit new volunteers.”

Esther Simpson, who has been an Oxfam volunteer for 12 years, said: “I’m really glad that I joined the team at the Oxfam shop in Bishopbriggs. Volunteering with Oxfam is another learning curve in my life. Also, the work that we in Oxfam do is really important to me, especially in the world that we live in.”

Whether you’ve got plenty of time to spare or just a few hours, the Oxfam shop in Bishopbriggs wants to hear from you. Giving up your time is only part of the story – volunteering with Oxfam is a great way to build your skills and confidence, make friends as part of a team, and of course to play your part in Oxfam’s global mission to end poverty.
