The council currently provides school buses for those living two miles or more from school; but pupils would have to live three miles or more away under the new policy, which was spelled out at a meeting in Lanark Grammar on Tuesday night.

Pupils attending Lanark Grammar, Biggar High, Lesmahagow High and Carluke High would be affected, with those in outlying areas facing long walks on busy roads to school.

The policy is out to consultation at the moment.

If you child faces a lengthy walk, let us know.

You can find the petition on-line here: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/stop-south-lanarkshire-changes-to-free-bus-transport-to-school

or on paper in the SNP hub in Lanark Wellgate.
