Danielle said: We as parents are worried for our kids safety. There is nowhere for our children to play.

“At the moment, they are forced to play on the road in Millburn Street.”

She said parents are angry as they believe there is council funding available for new children’s facilities in the area.

Danielle said: “We feel the council are just ignoring us.”

She said she has been heartened by the response so far from local people to their petition, describing it as “fantastic.”.

Grace Irvine, Director of Neighbourhood Services for the council, said: “There are a number of local residents and community groups who have differing aspirations for the site at Bencloich Road and the council is keen to work with them all to maximise the potential of open space within Lennoxtown.

“Our estates management team is working to determine the future of the derelict building and access rights. Once this is established we will be consulting with the community.”
