Park bosses say no risk after concern over asbestos

North Lanarkshire Leisure has stressed there is no risk to public safety following a report of an asbestos incident at the Bothwellhaugh football pitches.

The Times & Speaker was informed of a possible asbestos related situation at the area in Strathclyde Park this week, with fears several members of staff could have been exposed to the substance.

The area has floodlit 3G pitches available for games and training, and a pavilion.

However, NL Leisure insisted there was no risk to the public or users of the base.

A spokeswoman confirmed there had been an incident and that an investigation was being conducted.

She said: “There was an incident some months ago where all due process was followed and as a result there is no risk to public safety.

“There is currently a disciplinary investigation being conducted around the incident and it would be inappropriate to comment further until the investigation is complete.”
