Passenger dies in Melbourne Crossroads crash

The accident happened on the A702, at Melbourne Crossroads.

Police said that around 4.30pm a Toyota Aygo car was travelling south on the A702 approaching the junction with the A721 when it was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Zafira which emerged onto the A702 from the A721.

Emergency services attended and the 22-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Toyota Aygo car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and other passenger of the Toyota car were taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The driver and passenger of the Vauxhall vehicle did not require medical treatment.

The road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators carried out enquiries and examined the location.

Officers from Motherwell’s Road Policing Unit are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information on the accident to contact them on 101.
