Scotland’s animal welfare charity visited Kilmartin Place after residents tried unsuccessfully for eight days to find the animal’s owners.

Scottish SPCA inspector Sian Robertson said: “The cat is male and was found in a black, fabric cat carrier with a tag on it, and was wearing a blue, striped collar.

“Unfortunately the cat is not chipped so we have been unable to trace his owner. He is understandably very scared and nervous, but appears to be in good health.”

The tag on the carrier suggests the cat’s name is Reggie, and is aged just over a year old.

Sian added: “We appreciate the person may have intended for the animal to be found, but this is not the right way to give up an animal if you can no longer care for them.”

Anyone with information should call the animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
