Bishopbriggs couple get hitched - Asian style - on hit BBC Scotland show

A young Bishopbriggs couple star in a hit BBC Scotland show which returns tomorrow (Wednesday, September 2) for a
second series.

Law student Amani (21) and solicitor Ehsin Aslam (23) appear in the first episode Getting Hitched Asian Style which screens on the BBC Scotland channel at 8pm.

Pre-covid, wedding planners Saffron Events are preparing the young couple’s spectacular nuptials.

The bride’s parents, sisters and aunts are all helping Amani prepare a series of lavish events at home and at venues across Glasgow.

It’s all hands on deck with a week of celebrations from an Asian ‘hen party’ to the Mehndi party in Motherwell and joint wedding and Walima reception in Glasgow.

Sweethearts Amani and Ehsin both attended Lenzie Academy, although Ehsin was two years above Amani.

Ehsin said: “We actually grew up five minutes away from each other but we didn’t know each other then. And we went to the same high school, but we didn’t know each other then either!”

One of the surprise hits of the new BBC channel, the show wowed audiences with its colour, vibrancy and also its humanity and insight into Indian, Pakistani and Bengali weddings in Scotland.

The programme makers promise a welcome pop of colour and spectacular celebration, especially as so many weddings across Scotland have been suspended this year due to covid.

Narrator Sanjeev Kohli says: “In this series we have a VIP pass into a glittering world as a new generation say ‘I do’.”
