Clarkston Road hairdressers destroyed

Police are hunting the driver of a car which crashed through the front window of a city hairdressers on Sunday, destroying the interior.

The incident happened in the early hours of the morning at Yello’s salon in Clarkston Road in Cathcart.

The building is covered in scaffolding and supports stand at either side of the shop front.

It also sits within the confines of a pedestrian crossing, immediately opposite the Couper Institute public building.

Locals used social media to voice their amazement that the car managed to negotiate the only space available.

Gerry McLaughlin wrote on the Facebook page of the Battlefield Community Project: “How did they manage that without hitting the scaffolding?”

Nick Vagg added: ”As mentioned above, with all that scaffolding about, that’s some pretty precise ‘accidental’ driving!”

Another contributor suggested that the vehicle had reversed into the shop, which had metal shutters on the window.

On Sunday afternoon, an official from Scottish Power carried out an assessment inside the property, to ensure there was no danger to the public.

Police Scotland confirmed no-one had been hurt.

A spokeswoman added: “We were called at 2.30am this morning to a report of a car having crashed into a shop window in Clarkston Road.“The driver made off from the scene but the car has now been recovered.

“Inquiries are continuing.”
