His success in competitions led to him being invited to train with the WKA Scotland Squad where he flourished into an exceptional competitor.

In 2019 Hugh entered three World Championship competitions, the first WKO Championship in Barnsley where he won a bronze medal and the second WKA Championship held in Poland where he won a Bronze and two Gold medals. At the third ICO Championship held in Ravenscraig, he won two Silver Medals.

Brian J McFall, secretary of MOCCC said: “This was an extremely impressive haul of Bronze, Silver and Gold medals across three different Championship organisations and on at least one occasion competing at a higher age classification than his own.”

Hugh was due to compete again in the WKA Championship in the summer but
unfortunately due to Covid-19 the event could not take place.
