Pet owners urged to get their dogs chipped

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) is urging dog owners to make it a New Year's resolution to get their pet chipped before April 6.

Microchipping a dog is easy and harmless. Each chip contains a code that is revealed when scanned, and links to the owner’s details on a database.

Sean Wensley, president of the BVA, said: “Getting your dog microchipped is a great way to start the New Year. It’s also part of the new legal requirement that details on the microchip database are kept up to date.”

From April 6 failure to have a dog microchipped or out of date details can lead to a fine of up to £500. More information at www.bva.co.uk/.
