Davie (40) and his wife were settled down for a “usual Sunday night” when the selection committee arrived and their house in Hyndford Road was soon bulging with over 70 visitors helping to celebrate.

Davie was “thrilled” to be chosen.

“I am greatly honoured to be picked,” he said.

“I hope I live up to expectations and do myself, my family and the town proud.”

The only son of Robin and Margo Murdoch, Davie is married to Catriona, a teacher at Carluke Primary, and their son Ethan (3) has just started at Robert Owen Nursery, the primary school Davie attended.

He has made his career in the fire service butis probably better known in Lanark for his piping.

Davie has played the bagpipes with Lanark & District Pipe Band for over 30 years. He is currently Lanark’s Pipe Major and has led them to numerous successes over the years including winning the Cowal Championship twice and being runner-up at the World Pipe Band Championships.
