Playtime at Haywood

GIVEN the UK’s current dire financial plight within the grip of a double dip recession, it is admirable that campaigners from Clydesdale village Haywood – population 72 – were able to secure nearly £18,000 in funding to pay for a brand new playpark.

The official opening of Haywood Swing Park came last week, 26 long years after landowners South Lanarkshire Council removed an old, worn and unsafe roundabout from a site which had deteriorated into disrepair.

“Waiting so long for this new playpark has been a nightmare,” said Haywood Community Group treasurer Maryann Scott.

“It was desperately needed for the local area.”
