Police appeal after unprovoked attack in Rutherglen

Police are appealing for witnesses following a '˜violent and unprovoked' attack on a 24-year-old man walking home in Rutherglen.

The incident happened around 9pm on Saturday, December 9, in Newfield Place.

The victim was approached from behind by three men who assaulted him, dragging him to the ground and striking him to the head and body.

He managed to free himself and made his way home before phoning an ambulance – he was then taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to various injuries.

PC Gareth Laird, of Rutherglen Police Station, said: “The victim was subject to a violent and unprovoked attack.

“The area would have been busy at the time with members of the public and we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 0085 of 10th December.

“Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
