Police appeal following attempted murder in Govanhill

Detectives are appealing for information following the attempted murder of a man in the Govanhill area of Glasgow on Sunday, December 23.

At around 9.10pm a 52-year-old man was walking along Dixon Avenue with his partner when he was approached by another man.

The man produced a metal bar and proceeded to attack the man, before pushing the woman to the ground.

It is understood that there were a number of members of the public in the area at the time, and the man was chased along the road by two people.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Medical staff describe his condition as stable.

A 52 year old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are continuing.

Detective Sergeant Keith Runcie from Cathcart CID said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Dixon Avenue and witnessed the incident to please get in touch.

“In particular I would like to speak to the two people who chased the man along the street as well as any motorists with dash-cams who were in the area and may have captured footage of significance to the investigation.”
