Robert Thomson was last seen at a bus stop in the town’s Motherwell Road.

He failed to return home for his 18th birthday last Wednesday and his mum, Hazel Doonan, told the Times & Speaker: “It’s a nightmare. I just want a phone call to say he is all right.”

Hazel said her son was in good spirits and looking forward to his birthday when he left the family home in Community Road on Friday, June 3.

Calls to his mobile are going directly to voicemail. Hazel said: “I don’t understand it. The phone is never out of his hand.”

Robert is described as 18 years of age, 6 ft tall and slim with short, dark hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a black Lacoste tracksuit top with white stripes on the sleeves, dark tracksuit bottoms, black Nike training shoes and possibly a black Nike baseball cap.

Inspector William Jeffrey said: “Given the length of time Robert has been missing, there is mounting concern for his wellbeing. His family are understandably anxious that he has disappeared without any kind of contact.
