Police warning after spate of Lanark thefts

Police Scotland is urging everyone to check the security of outbuildings.

Officers are working to detect those responsible.

The public are asked to review their security, ensuring that all valuables are stored, outbuildings are padlocked and secure, and to report any suspicious activity immediately to Police Scotland 101.

Between Thursday, November 17 and Sunday November 20, two Honda Izzy petrol lawnmowers worth a total of £800 were stolen from within a garage in Beechwood Gate, Lanark. Witnesses are sought.

Between Friday November 11 and Wednesday November 16, an electric winch and Stihl saw were stolen in a break-in at a renovation site at Double Row, New Lanark. And sometime between Tuesday November 15 and Wednesday November 16, a laptop was stolen in a break-in at the Wee Row Youth Hostel, in Rosedale Street in the village.

Lights for a winter Lanimer parade lorry were also taken from a shed in Lanark.

Police are looking for witnesses, and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland 101, or Crimestoppers 0800555111 in confidence.

On Friday December 16, officers from Lanark Community Safety will be on patrol in Lanark Town Centre, visiting local businesses and providing them with security information.

From 10am until noon they will be visiting Lanark Lifestyles, and will be available to provide domestic and commercial advice.

At 11.30am there will be a short presentation around personal and domestic safety. All are welcome.

While on patrol, the public are urged to stop the officers and discuss any subject they would like information or reassurance on.
