Bins willbe taggedif you get it wrong

The council will this month “tag” local householders’ blue bins if they’re found to contain any items in them that can’t be recycled – for example textiles and glass.

The move is part of the authority’s attempt to make up a shortfall in the 50 per cent recycling target set by the Scottish Government – North Lanarkshire currently recycles 43 per cent of waste.

The council is appealing to householders to recycle as much waste as possible in their blue bins, but not to put items for recycling inside plastic bags, as this causes problems for waste processing.

“With blue bins and food waste caddies, we can easily recycle most everyday rubbish.
