The estimated opening date was January of next year but a petition for a judicial review is now in the hands of the Court of Session – amidst claims that the project was on a bigger scale than first believed.

A spokesperson for the owners of the Antonine Centre and Cumbernauld Shopping Centre explained: “We are deeply concerned that the development is no longer proposed to be a neighbourhood retail scheme.

“The granting of planning permission is, in our view, fundamentally flawed.

“We believe that the decision to allow a large-scale retail warehouse development rather than a neighbourhood centre, can be reviewed by the courts.”

A spokesman for L&S Broadwood, the company developing the site said: “We are aware that the granting of planning permission has been challenged and we are considering our response.”
