The pool at Glasgow Club Scotstoun was due to reopen early this year but was pushed back by Glasgow Life due to “issues outside their control”. It was announced in January that the pool would be closed for an extended period to allow £2.8 million worth of renovation work to be completed within nine months.

There are eight candidates hoping to win one of the four seats in the ward which is located in the north-west of the city and is immediately north of the River Clyde. It is next to the town of Clydebank – part of West Dunbartonshire Council – and includes the neighbourhoods of Garscadden and Scotstounhill, as well as Yoker, Scotstoun and part of Knightswood.

There are eight candidates hoping to win one of the four seats with councillors Butler, Cunningham and Murrary are all fighting to keep their status as an elected member while Councillor Cullen will not be standing for re-election as he faces allegations of perverting the course of justice.

Historically a pro-Labour ward both councillors Butler and Murray were elected in 2017 with their predecessors – Liz Cameron – the former Lord Provost of Glasgow and Paul Rooney members of the Labour party. In 2016, SNP councillor Chris Cunningham was elected in a by-election when Labour councillor John Kelly passed away from motor neurone disease.
