Hong Kong Citizens have a place in North Lanarkshire
Councillors unanimously agreed to welcome Hong Kong residents to North Lanarkshire amidst claims that athey could be in dangerous as the situation with Communist China hots up.

Hide AdMillions of people who hold British National Overseas passports are moving to the UK from Hong Kong due to tensions with China.
During the first full counc meeting since lockdown Conservative Airdrie councillor Trevor Douglas had a motion unanimously suppported by his fellow councillors.
It read: “This Council notes that difficult circumstances currently taking place between Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China; supports the UK Governments plans to offer almost three million Hong Kong citizens who hold British National Overseas passports to apply to live in the UK; agrees to support and encourage people from Hong Kong to choose North Lanarkshire as a place to live, learn work, invest and visit.”

Hide AdAfter the meeting Councillor Douglas said that the situation needed to be discussed at council level, adding: “It’s so important that we recognise our historic commitment to the people of Hong Kong and welcome them to North Lanarkshire.
“This is an opportunity to forge a strong relationship with the people of Hong Kong that will bring both cultural and economic benefits to us all.”
