She has decided to stand as an independent candidate in Ward Two, Newton Mearns North and Neilston.

Kirsteen, who now lives in Crookfur says that her main reason for standing in the forthcoming local elections has everything to do with today’s party politics as, like many residents, she’s simply had enough.

Kirsteen commented: “Already we have seen some campaigning mentioning a second independence referendum, brexit etc and this is what drives me potty. These are issues that are dealt with at national level and not locally.

“I am not a politician and have no desire to have any form of political career, I am just a resident who wants to see this community flourish once more.

“I am concerned about local issues, such as: lack of teaching support staff in schools; the condition of many of our roads and pavements; the amount of building on greenbelt land, when there is brownfield available; transport to and from the new health centre in Clarkston, and the privatisation of Bonnyton House.”

Kirsteen went on to say: “I feel that residents have lost their voices, they are either not being listened to, or completely ignored.

“I haven’t spoken to one person who is in favour of the Biogas plant and all that comes with it.

“I just feel that we need to be heard once more and have the area run as we, the residents, wish it to be.

“We deserve transparency from East Renfrewshire Council as their funding comes from us, we pay for it and should have a proper say in how the money is used for the benefit of our area and its residents.
