Library is booked in for a new look

The library will be transformed in to a shared community space with new windows, lighting, heating.

There will, also be disabled access at the front door, adapted public toilets, upgraded insulation, double the current provision of computers for the public and modern furniture.

A reduced library service began operating out of the Cleland Senior Citizens’ Centre on Monday, offering quick choice, returns and reservations.

Opening times are: Mondays from 9.30am-1pm and 2-7pm. Wednesdays from 9.30am-1pm and 2-5pm, and Fridays from 2-5pm.

Bookbug sessions will be held on Mondays at 10.30am for toddlers and 11.30am for babies up to 18 months.

The mobile library will call at North Dryburgh Road on Fridays at 9.40am by Lyne Street and 10.05am at the hairdressers.

CultureNL’s community librarian Rosemary Stewart said: “Thanks to the council’s funding from the Reshaping Care for Older People programme, we are now able to progress this exciting development for Cleland.

“The building will be transformed with a new-look library and social space for sheltered housing residents.

“There will also be double the number of computers, new furniture throughout and wheelchair accessible toilets.

“We do apologise for any inconvenience to customers during this period, but hope it will all be worthwhile once our new facility reopens.

“Cleland customers will also be made most welcome at Newmains, Wishaw, Craigneuk or Motherwell libraries.”
