The council is looking to modernise it’s housing stock and the first step will be to tear down all 48 of its residential tower blocks, including the 26 in Motherwell,

The 351 households living Allan, Coursington and Draffen Towers, collectively known as the Coursington multis, will receive information packs and surveys delivered through their doors next week.

The council is seeking the views of every resident who may be affected in the first phase demolition plans, they will be given the opportunity to have their say on the ambitious redevelopment plans and the type of future housing they would require.

Information packs will be delivered to each affected household by a local housing officer, who will be on hand to answer any questions.

The packs will include details of which blocks have been identified, why they are being considered for demolition, timescales involved, where people may be rehoused, compensation payments, details of open days and the survey questionnaire.

Stephen Llewellyn, head of Housing Solutions within North Lanarkshire Council, said: “This is the start of our ambitious plans to transform the skyline of North Lanarkshire and to provide quality modern homes that meet the housing needs of our communities.

“It’s vital that we hear the views from every resident and we will take on board their opinions, so I would urge every resident affected by these plans to have their say. This will have a major impact on you and your family so don’t miss the chance to shape this decision.

“We will have officers hand delivering each pack and they will also return to collect completed questionnaires. People can also fill in the survey online and we will have a dedicated webpage with further information.

“In addition, we will be hosting open days at each location to provide further guidance for residents.”

In total 1672 homes will be affected at this stage, with the other properties identified in phase one of the scheme as follows:
