Pollokshields store targeted in daylight robbery

A CONVENIENCE store on Pollokshaws Road was held up at knife point on Saturday morning.

The Friends store was targeted at 9.50am when a man – Asian, 5ft 10 and of muscular build – entered, threatened a staff member with a knife and left with a three-figure sum of cash, escaping in the direction of Kingarth Street.

The shop worker was uninjured but left badly shaked by the incident, and police have since been carrying out door-to-door enquiries, as well as checking CCTV images from the area.

Officers have issued a further description of the robber, who was wearing a dark grey Adidas tracksuit with red stripes on the arms and trousers, as well as a scarf to cover his face.

Constable Alan Macdougall, of Pollok police office, said: “This is a relatively busy location with fast food outlets, and no doubt there would have been people out and about at the time.

“It’s possible that someone may have seen the suspect either prior to or following the incident and I would appeal to anyone who has any information or knowledge to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 532 4900, or the new non-emergency number for police services, 101.
