Portable pitch visits a street near you

A mobile sports pitch will be bringing football, rugby and other sports to various locations around the area, in a bid to boost opportunities for young people aged 11 to 17.

The street sports programme has been made possible through a £17,000 council investment and has been developed with multi agency support from Sports Development, Community Safety and Police Scotland.

The scheme will begin on Friday, September 2, and on Fridays every fortnight thereafter from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the following venues - September 2, Lidl car park, Kirkintilloch; September 16, St Machan’s Chapel car park, Lennoxtown; September 30, Torrance Primary, Torrance; October 14, Springfield Cambridge Church, The Leys, Bishopbriggs; October 28, Douglas Street car park, Milngavie; November 11, Kenilworth Crescent car park, Courthill, Bearsden,

Councillor Leader, Rhondda Geekie, said, “This is a really exciting programme and a great opportunity for young people to enjoy different sports right on their own door steps.

“The portable pitch is a great piece of kit and I would encourage anyone aged between 11 and 17 who is interested in taking part to go along to an event in their area. There is no need to book – you can just turn up and the team will welcome everyone who comes along.”
