Public raise £3,500 in memory of Kenny Parry

Scott decided to set up the Just Giving page to raise cash for the British Heart Foundation after the tragic death of his older brother on April 24.

Popular Kenny (39) collapsed in the early stages of a Carluke over-35s match, played in Shettleston, and was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary but later died.

Scott (28) can’t believe that in little more than a week, such a large amount has been raised with over 150 people contributing to the huge total which rises on a daily basis.

He said: “It has been so overwhelming. We have had people donating money who I don’t even know but it just shows you how kind people can be.

“A good example of that was when I posted on social media about the death at the weekend of the young Belgian footballer Gregory Mertens who died in similar circumstances to Kenny.

“I then had a look on the Just Giving page and noticed someone had donated a tenner and mentioned that they had saw my post and wanted to donate.

“It’s really given my mum and dad a great deal of comfort. My dad was never a big lover of things like Facebook but he has enjoyed reading some of the comments about Kenny.

“It has really restored their faith in everything and I know that there is going to be a lot more money coming in.”

As well as donations from the public, more money will flow into the charity’s coffers thanks to the efforts of the local football fraternity and Kenny’s work colleagues.

And there are also plans in place for a fundraiser in Kenny’s memory.

Scott added: “I know that Carluke Rovers have been doing a can collection at their last two matches which is greatly appreciated.

“Kenny’s work have also been collecting money and we already put the wheels in motion for a charity day for Kenny. I know that the Rovers, Carluke over 35s and my own amateur side, Carluke Thistle, all want to do something so there will definitely be more money coming in.

“If we can play a small part in helping other people then that’s all that matters.”

Kenny’s funeral will take place this Friday at Cambusnethan North Church before moving onto Holytown Crematorium.
