Pupils win national award

MORE than 40 pupils from St Ninian’s high school in East Renfrewshire were celebrating winning a national 
award.

Four pupils, individually, and three groups have been given the Diana national award for their work in and out of school.

The Diana Awards are presented to inspirational or socially active young people who have made a positive difference to the lives of others and their communities.

The individual winners are Melissa O’Neil — for positive attitude when having to go through a number of medical procedures.

Nina McCue was awarded for patient and caring nature and work with the RSPB.

Rachel Fox received her award for organising fundraising schemes for Cancer Research, Age Concern and the NSPCC.

Laura Mackie won for her commitment to raising cash for the Stroke Association.

The three groups were Helping Hands — who give up time every week to organise fundraising events, the Eco Group — which campaigns on such topics as litter, and the Life Group — which works to improve the lives of others by raising awareness and fundraising.

St Ninian’s head teacher, John Docherty, was delighted with the awards.
