Quarry plan ‘disastrous’ for New Lanark
A LANARK councillor believes the possible loss of New Lanark’s World Heritage status due to a successful quarry application would be disastrous.
This stark warning from Independent Councillor Ed Archer came as UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee was advised by its inspectors that the ‘adverse impact’ of the Cemex quarry extension could damage the universal value of New Lanark.
The move from the United Nations body comes before the proposed public hearings in August into the extension which has caused so much controversy in and around the village.
