Question time for election hopefuls

The General Election is just a few weeks away, when the country will go to the polls to select the next UK Government.

The Herald has teamed up with Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce to hold a business hustings meeting in the run-up to polling day on May 7.

The hustings meeting will take place on Thursday, April 23.

It will run from noon-2pm, in McGregor House auditorium, at Southbank Business Park, in Kirkintilloch.

Chamber of Commerce member and local businessman Robert Wilson will chair the event and says it will be an ideal opportunity to put key questions to the candidates standing in the East Dunbartonshire constituency.

Robert said: “Although this hustings meeting is primarily for businesses anyone can come along on the day.

“And representatives from the various charities would also be more than welcome.”

The hustings meeting will be held along the same lines as the ‘Question Time’ programme on TV.

Each candidate will get a short time to put their position across and then it will be open to questions from those attending the event.

Herald readers can also e-mail questions to us before the hustings.

Robert added: “We are looking for a good turnout. People can just drop in over their lunch break – even it’s just for a short time – and leave if they have to get back to work.”

Kirkintilloch Herald Series Editor Jim Holland said: “We’re delighted to support this event and would ask our readers to send in any questions they would like us to put to the candidates on their
behalf.
