Race you down to
the village green

EAGLESHAM residents will be out in droves on June 1 for the village’s annual family fair — and there’s a special sporting guest on the bill.

The procession kicks off at 11am with a World of Sport theme in honour of Olympian Lynne Beattie, who will judge the floats at this year’s fair.

Committee chairman Geoff Greenlaw is thrilled to have the women’s volleyball captain and Eaglesham girl attending.

He said: “After the success of the London Olympics and the prospect of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, it seems fitting to put Eaglesham on the sporting calendar this year.

“We’re going for bigger and better than ever before — with a number of class acts to entertain the thousands we hope will come along.”

Entertainment for the day includes horse stunt team Riders of the Storm, chainsaw sculpture by Jonny Stableford and music from the 1st Troon Company pipe band.

As well as the craft and food fair, revellers can also enjoy a dog show, pony club demonstration and races around the village green.

There’s plenty going on in the run-up to the fair too, including a make your own windmill competition, an Old Crocks football match on May 29, a quiz night at the Swan Inn on May 30 and a senior citizens tea dance on May 31.

The fair closes on June 2 with a free performance by music duo Vangel.
