PD Stirling Ltd, owners and operators of Mossend Railhead, has donated the land to Mount Ellen Golf Club to ‘help develop the next generation of North Lanarkshire golfers’.

Company boss David Stirling said: “PD Stirling Ltd has been established for more than 140 years and has been based in North Lanarkshire for the past 30 years. It’s great to see another organisation, with a long history in the area like ourselves, looking to the future by providing opportunities and facilities for new talent.”

The firm currently has an application lodged with North Lanarkshire Council for planning permission for the railfreight terminal.

But it had attracted hundreds of objection and a special hearing is likely to be held later this year.
