Redhurst charity success was a racing certainty

A race night staged at Giffnock's Redhurst Hotel has raised £2,000 for local charity East Renfrewshire Good Causes.

ERGC delivers person-specific practical help to local people in need, providing anything from wheelchairs to washing machines, cookers or even computers.

It has helped hundreds across the district, and is supported by businesses as well as many individuals.

The Redhurst night raised more than £1,500 – to which was added a further £500 from various other activities.

East Renfrewshire Good Causes founder Russell MacMillan was delighted to receive the £2,000 cheque from (pictured) Redhurst general manager Lesley Smith.

The money is already being put to good use, since ERGC promptly stepped in to help members of a family who have visual impairments.

They were provided with an iPad specially adapted to include features and apps designed to assist people with sight difficulties.

Lesley Smith said: “We are a real community based hotel.

“Almost all the team at The Redhurst Hotel were born and raised around this area.

“Many of our regular customers are also local, and they’ve got behind us to support what we are doing.

“I’m delighted we’re able to help Russell with the great work he does in providing immediate support to people in our community who need it most”.

Meanwhile Russell wants to say “a massive thankyou” to local Asda customers who have voted for his cause.

Thousands of shoppers helped ERGC win the three-monthly green token charity cash fund, which means a £500 donation to ERGC’s funds.

Russell said: “This public vote of confidence in the work we do gives us such encouragement, and it’s lovely to see the community coming together to love our own neighbours here in East Ren”.
