Redundancies announced by Virgin Media

Company announced redundancies this week.

The company released a statement today (Thursday) with details of a possible 900 cuts throughout the UK.

It stated changes to its operating structure “could result in around 900 redundancies in the UK over the next two years”.

It further read: “The proposed reorganisation supports Virgin Media’s growth plans and its drive to offer the best services for customers.

“The company continues to create new roles and recruit, particularly in areas driving its growth.

“Overall, the company expects to increase the number of people it employs directly and with outsourced partners in the UK and overseas from around 23,000 in 2015 to more than 25,000 in 2016 and 26,000 in 2017.”

The international cable company is now entering into a consultation period with employees in potentially affected roles.

Tom Mockridge, CEO of Virgin Media, said: “Over the last three years Virgin Media has been transformed. We’re expanding, investing and growing our business.

“The proposed reorganisation will give us an even sharper focus on the customer, network expansion and business growth.”

The Times & Speaker asked if staff at the Strathclyde Business Park base would be affected, to which the company responded: “The changes announced today are proposals, subject to formal consultation with employees through our employee forum.

“We are not therefore yet in a position to announce where the cuts will be made until we have properly consulted with staff through the forum.”
