Remains found at Mugdock Park confirmed to be John Murphy

Human remains found within the grounds of Mugdock Country Park have been identified as a man who went missing from the east end of Glasgow almost a year ago.

John Murphy, who was 52, was last seen near his home in Dennistoun on May 12 2015.

A widespread search was launched for the father-of-five from Craigpark Drive but despite possible sightings in June and July of last year he was not found.

The police confirmed yesterday (Wednesday) that the remains found in Mugdock Country Park near Milngavie waterworks on March 15 had been identified as those of Mr Murphy.

A police spokesperson said: “A post-mortem examination has taken place and the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

His family has been informed and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
