A new £12.4m building is currently being built on the Woodhill Primary site to house pupils from Woodhill and Auchinairn primaries, along with children from Cleddens Learning and Childcare Centre.

East Dunbartonshire Council now want residents to help name it, choosing from three options: ‘Hillview Primary’, ‘Thomas Muir Primary’ and ‘Westerhill Primary’.

One person who has a firm opinion of which name should win out is Jimmy Watson, chair of The Friends of Thomas Muir.

He believes that the school should be named after the political reformer whose family moved to Huntershill House, in Bishopbriggs, in 1782.

The 250th anniversary of Thomas Muir’s birth was celebrated with a series of events last year and Jimmy thinks the school would be another fitting tribute.

He said: “I think it would be fantastic for there to be a lasting link to Thomas Muir within the community and that the name is more fitting than the other options.”
