Road closure extended to September!

Residents on the southside of Glasgow are furious with a recent Scottish Water announcement that a road closure is set to be extended.

The current roadworks, which have been in place for a year, were due to have been completed this month, however the utility company have now announced they will remain in place until September !

The work on the construction of the Shieldhall Tunnel has hit a snag necessitating a short stretch of Queen’s Drive/Langside Road, near the tennis courts to remain closed.

Scottish Water have said: “The reason for the extension to the road closure is that the infrastructure Scottish Water is upgrading is more than 100 years old and, following the excavation of a shaft and a review of some existing infrastructure, some aspects of the planned work required additional design.”

Local diversions will remain in operation via Prospecthill Road, Cathcart Road and Calder Street for north-bound traffic and via Allison Street, Cathcart Road and Prospecthill Road for south-bound traffic.
