Robert Harvie’s high jump for charity

A YOUNG farmer making his first-ever flight jumped out of the plane – to help raise funds for the volunteer drivers who had helped his aunt.

Marion Grant was able to hand over £1500 to Cancer Care thanks to his courage.

“My auntie was looking at ways of raising money to give back to those who had helped her, and I decided to do a 10,000 feet skydive,” said Robert Harvie (20).

He had never done anything like that before – “It was my first time in a plane as well,” added Robert, who works on the family farm.

“But I would do it again. The adrenaline rush was great.”

Marion said that initially her reaction was that Robert, a member of Lesmahagow Young Farmers, was “off his head” but she was delighted with the amount raised.

Marion has just finished lengthy treatment for cancer, and that has involved the volunteer drivers collecting her from her home in Douglas and taking her to Monklands, the Beatson and the Royal, where she had surgery. She had chemotherapy before her opeation, and had to go for five weeks of radiotherapy aferwards, 25 days of hospital trips. with drivers taking and collecting her.
