Rocking out to help sufferers of dementia

Rockers at a special '˜Memory Fest' concert at a Kirkintilloch night club have helped raise £1500 for Alzheimer Scotland and Dementia UK.

The successful event at Club Bliss in the town centre was the brainchild of Chryston couple Stephen and Cathy Dodgson, who have both witnessed the devastating impact of the diseases at first hand.

Stephen’s father was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia in 2013.

Cathy said: “Our main goal in organising Memory Fest ‘16 was to raise awareness and funds for Dementia UK and Alzheimer Scotland through a fun night of classic rock music, and that’s just what we did.

“Working with the local community in events like this is a fantastic way for us to help raise awareness about the growing issue of dementia and we are already looking forward to the next one!”

Suhail Rehman, owner of Home Instead in Glasgow said, “When Stephen and Cathy approached us with the idea of organising Memory Fest in Kirkintilloch, we were delighted to be involved and sponsor the event.

“A huge thanks to everyone who made the night such a great success. Local bands R.is.E and The Amused Owls provided fantastic entertainment and we enjoyed some fun games and activities including Name the Monkey, Tear a Strip Off (sponsored chest and leg waxing) and numerous raffles.

“Also, many thanks to the wonderful audience who came along, dug deep in to their pockets and helped to raise £1500!”
