Rouken Glen continues to fly the Green Flag

The visitor attraction has added to four previous awards, and is one of 65 parks and green spaces across Scotland to have picked one up for 2015.

The Green Flag award is administered by Keep Scotland Beautiful, and is seen as benchmark for quality green space.

Councillor Vincent Waters, environment convener for East Renfrewshire Council, said: “It’s wonderful news that Rouken Glen has been awarded its fifth Green Flag.

“Each year, thousands of visitors flock to Rouken Glen Park from all over the west of Scotlande and beyond to enjoy its many attractions - wide open spaces, walled garden, boating pond and spectacular waterfall.

“The pavilion and visitor centre was recently totally refurbished and our new and colourful £270,000 playground has attracted hundreds of children since it opened in June last year.

“We’re also busy planning another Electric Glen lighting festival in the park for early 2016.”

The news follows East Renfrewshire Council launching a survey encouraging residents to have their say on the future of its ‘crown jewel’ park.

Researchers are hitting the park for face-to-face interviews, and the survey is also available online.

Councillor Waters promised continued investment in the park, following a recent Heritage Lottery grant of £2 million and a further £1m investment from ERC which allowed for the restoration of the pavilion and new playground.

One commenter suggested a Stonehenge-like stone circle, while another mentioned an indoor soft play area to shield East Ren youngsters from the rain.
