PC David Wesencraft, of Police Scotland Lanarkshire Division, said: “We take rural crime very seriously and patrol rural areas as part of our day-to-day operational policing to provide reassurance and offer advice.

“Rural crime presents its own challenges and has a great impact as the property stolen, such as a quad bikes, may be an integral part in the day to day running of a farm.

“We take every opportunity to share knowledge and intelligence with officers across the force area to minimise the number of crimes.

“Officers will question suspicious activity and stop vehicles where they have reasonable cause to suspect malicious intent.

“We hope that making people aware of the best way to prevent crime will result in a reduction in opportunities for criminals.”

The rural crime awareness event is being held on Friday, May 29, at Lanark Market, in Hyndford Road, from 11am to 3pm.
