School and science rock...even on a Saturday

SCHOOL on a Saturday might sound boring – but at Langside primary pupils were busy proving that science rocks on any day of the week.

The school hosted an afternoon of experiments, shows and demonstrations courtesy of schools project Science Rocks!, and children of all ages – and from other Glasgow primaries – descended on the southside to learn more.

Curious kids were treated to nutritionally balanced pizzas from professor Mike Lean, knowledge of the brain courtesy of Dr Kara Glen (also a Langside school mum), and cutting edge technology via a nuclear magnetic resonance instrument, which acts like an MRI scanner but comes in at the size of a shoebox.

As well as experts in the fields of science, technology, engineering and medicine, future scientists could also visit a Starlab planetarium and The Science of the Circus, hosted by Science Shows for Schools.

Head teacher Christine Wilson commented that it was the school’s first time visit from Science Rocks!, and that “everyone was very excited about taking part and making it a huge success”.

Joanne Robertson, of Science Rocks! added that the event was “the result of some excellent team work between the school, parents and wider scientific community”.
