School children follow in the tracks of an Olympic legend

Pupils from Wester Cleddens Primary School, in Bishopbriggs, swapped their textbooks for racing bikes when they visited Glasgow’s Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome to try their hand at the sport of track cycling.

The state-of-the-art 2,500-seat velodrome, named after the six-times Olympic gold medallist, was opened last year and will host the cycling events at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Speaking after the visit, Wester Cleddens headteacher Paul Meehan, said: “The highlight of our visit to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome has to be the amazing sense of achievement that each and every pupil felt.”
