BROWNIES across the country are celebrating the organisation’s centenary year — and the East Renfrewshire girls visited the Glasgow Science Centre last Saturday for a space-themed birthday spectacular.

Over 800 Brownies and leaders from East Ren started with a trip into the past, to learn more about the 100-year history of the Brownies. The girls also took up a Star Quest, travelling through time zones on the hunt for missing stars.

Aimee Graham (9) from Barrhead, had the honour of blowing out the candles on the Big Brownie Birthday cake, as it was also her birthday. She said: “It was much better than a normal birthday. It felt like being part of a big family, being with so many other Brownies.”

Evy Yedd, county commissioner for East Ren, commented: “We were very lucky to get lottery funding to help fund the event. We wanted to give Brownies the feeling that they are part of a very big and exciting group of Brownie friends.”
