Scottish Coal jobs in Clydesdale under threat

CLYDESDALE politicians have expressed concern over the future of scores of local jobs as the livelihood of Scottish Coal workers remains unclear.

The Scottish Resources Group, which owns the coal mining operations, is planning to shed around 450 jobs across its sites, including those in Clydesdale, which are predominantly in the Douglas Valley.

Clydesdale MSP Aileen Campbell said: “I have contacted SRG to seek the facts about jobs and opencast sites in Clydesdale and will be meeting with their representative shortly.”

And rural Clydesdale MP David Mundell said: “News of hundreds of job losses within Scottish Coal is very regrettable, for they are an important employer within rural Clydesdale.”
