Scrum on down to rugby club's May Fest weekend

Lenzie rugby club's annual festival of sport, food, music and drink is warming up to be the event which kicks off the summer season.

Mayfest runs from the 29th of April to the 1st of May at Lenzie Rugby Club,

Now, as well as having teams in all age groups in rugby, it enjoys a healthy social section, welcoming members and non-members alike.

Lenzie RFC president David McCrae said : “Lenzie RFC invites all members of the public to come along to our third annual Mayfest event.

“This marks the end of the rugby season and the beginning of the summer for the
local community.

“Mayfest caters for all of the family, with an old-school sports day and bouncy castle for the kids, exciting rugby matches, fantastic food supplied by 
local companies, some 
great live music, over 30 real ales and a Prosecco tent.”

Here’s a run-down of the entertainment, which includes a rugby match with the esteemed Hillhead Jordanhill RFC on the Saturday afternoon.

Friday 29th of April: The festival kicks off at 6.30pm with a taster session of over 30 real ales all from Scottish breweries.

Saturday 30th of April: Mayfest will be in full swing with the rugby match against Hillhead Jordanhill RFC kicking off at 2.30pm.

Kids’ entertainment will take place after the rugby match, including a bouncy castle, bungee run, face-painting and an organised ‘old-school’ sports day.

You can also enjoy real ales from some of Scotland’s finest breweries, hog roast by Nonna’s Kitchen and live music throughout the evening.

LenzieRugby Club is especially excited to welcome Katee Kross on the Saturday evening, a very talented, young musician from Bishopbriggs.

Sunday 1st of May: There will be BBQ with Billington’s of Lenzie, French boule competition and live music throughout the evening, including from the talented John Coletta.

And local musicians can play their part too, open mic will be available both Saturday and Sunday evening!

A spokesman said: “The organisers would like to invite local musicians to come along to the open mic session on the 30th of April and 1st of May, from 7pm onwards.”
