THE Country Fair at Auchlochan retirement village near Lesmahagow was a roaring success on Saturday, blessed with good weather and a huge turnout of visitors.

Customer Services Manager Wendy Wilson had lined up attractions ranging from Scottish folk singer Alastair McDonald to Coalburn Jivers Dance Group and even a dog agility display team.

“The day was absolutely fantastic,” said colleague Cathy Johnston.

“It was full of fun. The weather was good, we had a really good attendance, and it was enjoyed by everybody there.

“It was a good day”

The heavens opened just as the fair should have, at 11am, but within minutes the rain had stopped and the weather was great for the rest of the day.

That allowed visitors to try their hand at outdoor skills such as archery and beat-the-goalie, or to sit back and listen to Alastair McDonald.

“He was fantastic,” said Cathy. “He went down a treat with everybody who was there.”

The Coalburn Jivers, a local dance group, were a major success with their rock and roll sessions, getting local firemen and spectators up to dance with them.

The dog agility team were another major success.

The dogs flew over and under obstacles on their courses, and the little Yorkie (pictured) left spectators amazed at its performance,

Wendy and her colleagues were delighted with the support from families of those in the homes or the independent living blocks, and local people – many of who work there – coming along withtheir children.

“We got a lot of visitors and a lot of support from Coalburn and Lesmahagow, and we are grateful to all the people who came along on the day.

Proceeds from the fair are shared between amenity funds for residents of the homes and the independent living side.
