Sex offender used mum's name online

Three years ago Kyle Young admitted sending messages of a sexual nature to a 13-year-old girl. He was a technology studies teacher at Clyde Valley High School at the time.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard he sent the girl messages calling her “stunning” and “sexy”. He asked her to send him photographs.

However, she became alarmed and told her grandmother. The school authorities and the police were alerted.

Young, of Motherwell, was placed under supervision and put on the sex offenders’ register for three years. He was also struck off the teachers’ list.

He was back in the dock last week to admit breaching the requirements of the register by failing to disclose to police he was using another name on Facebook between April 2013, and March 2015.

Young (29) set up an account in the name of his mother, Sarah, to allow him to keep using the social networking site.

Imran Bashir, prosecuting, said the offence came to light when police officers made a check on Young and he admitted what he had been doing.

There was no evidence that Young had sent any illegal messages while using the fake Facebook page.

This time Young was given two years supervision and put on the sex offenders’ register for the same period. He must also do 120 hours of unpaid work.

Sheriff Thomas Millar said: “Offending of this nature can result in a custodial sentence, but this is different because you brought it to attention of the authorities.”
